Spa full of peace and healing energy. Bardejovské Kúpele is located 5 km north of the town of Bardejov in the picturesque valley of the mountains Low Beskids in an area rich in mineral waters. The first written record on the local mineral dates back to 1247 to the document of Belo IV. in which he outlines the Bardejov district borders. The springs were well documented as they lie close to Bardejov and the important “great royal road” connecting the Mediterranean with the Baltic. Over the centuries, several spa facilities were built near the springs – these were widely popular among the nobility from near and far. At the beginning of the 19th century, the spa was one of the most sought-after in Hungary, visited by the names like Emperor Joseph II, Marie Louise, Duchess of Parma, Russian Tsar and the Empress Elizabeth of Bavaria, wife of Francis Joseph I. (the statue dedicated to Elizabeth commemorates her stay of 1903). The number of visitors to the spa increased after the construction of the railway line to Bardejov with a permanent connection by carriages to the spa. The Magura mountains protect the entire spa valley from severe weather changes and wind, so the spa has a very favourable climate. Clean air, silence and beautiful nature is a perfect combination for improving one’s health. In the central park of the spa spring six springs of mineral waters. The hypotonic water of the “Hlavný (Main)”, “Lekársky (Medical)” and “Hercules” springs is rich in bicarbonate, chloride, sodium and iron. The hypotonic water of the “Alžbeta (Elizabeth)” spring is rich in bicarbonate, chloride, sodium-calcium and iron. From the point of view of balneology, the springs rank among the most important mineral waters of their kind. In addition to spa houses and hotels, Bardejovské Kúpele has a whole package to offer. The visitors can look forward to two swimming pools and two expositions of the Šariš Museum in Bardejov – ethnographic and open-air museum – museum of folk architecture, amphitheatre, tennis courts, mini golf, fitness, bowling bar, ski lift, oxygen track, 35 km of groomed hiking trails, natural swimming pool with heated water, salt cave.
